Let them toast you again, this time with mimosas.

Winding Down The Festivities

If you're not planning on being on a plane the morning after your wedding, you may want to host a postwedding brunch.  It is a nice way to spend a bit more time with family and close friends, especially those who came from out of town to attend your nuptials.

A postwedding brunch is typically hosted by the bride's parents, and the guest list can be intimate (family only) to grand (the entire guest list).  Invitations can be formal or informal, it is completely up to you.  For our postwedding brunch, we sent an Evite.  You can also include a card with your wedding invitation.  Do remember to track the RSVPs, especially if you will be required to book  a certain room size at a venue, or give a headcount to the caterer.

The typical start time of a brunch would be between 10:00am and 12:00pm, and you should expect it run for no more than two hours.  You will likely be tired after a all the festivities the day before, so give yourself some time to rest up and get refreshed.

Where to Hold a Postwedding Brunch

Your parents may choose to host the brunch at their home, but many families find it easiest to have the brunch held at a restaurant or other venue.  This way the setup and breakdown will not fall any of your family members.

Some families opt to hold the brunch where the wedding was held, for example if you are having a hotel reception, the catering manager may be able to assist you in arranging a brunch in another banquet room for the following morning.  This will be convenient for you, and any other wedding guests staying at the hotel.  And now, for some brunch suggestions:

Portland Area Brunch Locations

  • Jake's Grill: biscuits and jam are incredible, with a gorgeous dark wood bar and white tile floors throughout.  Banquet rooms host between 20 and 60 guests.
  • McMinneman's Kennedy School: a huge catering menu, with several rooms to chose from.  A delightful, relaxed atmosphere with wonderful art throughout the building.
  • Mother's Bistro: located downtown, with a relaxed and welcoming interior, serves excellent French press coffee.  A favorite for breakfast and brunch any day of the week.
  • Pine State Biscuits: if you like biscuits and gravy, give this place a try.  Located on SE Belmont, it has a menu to impress.
  • Papa Hydan: a venerable NW 23rd location, serves up delicious breakfasts.  The food is incredible, the service impeccable.
  • Besaw's: I've been going here since I was a child, my Dad loves the juevos rancheros, and I love the coffee, omelets, and atmosphere.  The wonderful NW 23rd location will invite guests to meander off those calories after the brunch.
  • Hash: one look at the menu, and my mouth was watering.  The restaurant is committed to using local produce whenever possible, and purchase their meat and dairy products from humanely treated animals.  Eating out never tasted and felt so good.
