Dinner Jacket. Tuxedo. Black Tie. White Tie. Tales. Cumberbund. And what is a morning coat?
Time to learn about tuxedo and suit styles for the groom. As noted above, there is a plethora of lingo. Read on for the break down of formal menswear.
The Jacket

Tuxedo Jacket
The traditional tuxedo jacket is the most popular jacket in men's formalwear.
But there are endless varitions, including single and double-breasted jackets, from one button to six.

Full Dress Tails
With a cropped front, this jacket has two tails in the back and a two- to six-button front.
Perfect for ultra-formal evening weddings.

Morning Coat or Cutaway Jacket
An excellent choice for a formal morning daytime weddings. This jacket is short in the front, long in the back.
Morning coats are either black or gray and are worn with matching striped trousers.

Mandarin or Nehru Jacket
This jacket features a stand-up collar with no lapel and can be worn with a Mandarin-collared
shirt or traditional shirt. WIth this jacket, the groom may avoid wearing a tie.
The Lapel

Notch Lapel
This lapel features a triangular indention where the lapel joins the collar.

Peak Lapel
A little more dramatic, this broad V-shaped lapel points up and out just below the collar line.

Shawl Lapel
My personal favorite, it's so smooth.
This lapel has a rounded lapel with no notch.
Shirt Collars

Wing Collar
The most formal choice and the most popular with standard tuxedo jackets,
this stand-up collar has downward points.
Crosswyck
This collar style crosses in front and is fastened with a shiny button.

Mandarin Collar
The most contemporary-style tuxedo shirt, this collar stands up around the neck.
Spread Collar
Resembling a standard dress shirt collar, the spread collar has wide division
between points in front, which accommodates wider ties.
Cuffs
French Cuffs
Most formalwear will require cufflinks to hold the sleeves together. Standard dress shirts have cuffs
which are held together by cufflinks, while French cuffs are folded over and closed with cufflinks.

Cufflinks are an excellent gift the groom, coming in a wide variety of styles and price ranges.
They also make for good pictures, either in the box, or as your groom puts them on.
Neckwear

Bow Tie
The bow tie is the tie to compliment the classic tux.
Bow ties can be any color, but white is reserved for super-formal events.
Necktie
The standard necktie will do just fine with a tuxedo.
Be sure to pick a quality silk tie which will stand up in a tuxedo.

Ascot Ties
This formal tie is typically patterned, folded over, and fastened with a stickpin or tie tack.
For ultra-formal daytime weddings and worn with a cutaway coat and striped gray trousers.
Accessories
Waistcoasts or Vests
Vests come in a multitude of colors and fabric styles.
It is easy to coordinate your wedding party with vests.
Cumberbund
