  1. My now fiance planned a ski trip for us far in advance so that I could make sure to have work off. Two days before we were supposed to leave he said he had an early Christmas present for me that would effect what I needed to pack, so I had to come over. I got to his house and opened the gift to find 2 luggage tags with Mickey Mouse on them -- apparently we weren't going to Bend, we were going to my favorite place, Disneyland! When we arrived at the Grand Californian Hotel, we got to our room with a prime view overlooking the park -- it was amazing! We spent the day in the parks enjoying the sun while it poured in Portland. It started to get cold so we decided to head back to our room for some jackets. We walked through the castle and he suggested we take a picture in front of the castle with the Christmas lights turned on. He gave the photographer our photo pass, and I stood ready for a photo, but he got down on one knee and proposed! I was shocked until I realized what was happening, and of course I said yes! Everyone around us started to clap and cheer, so I just had to laugh! The photographer snapped away and got our special moment captured forever. (it was also my parents 30th anniversary that day!) Back in the room champagne awaited so we could celebrate the moment apart from the crowd. He then took me to the Blue Bayou for dinner which was the perfect end to the night! It was the proposal of my dreams, and I can't wait to get married August 7, 2010!
  2. What girl doesn't love telling this story? Mine was rather simple and easy. I was getting over a bad break up when I met my fiance. In fact I met him at a party and he was standing next to my roommate. I walked up to her and said "I hate men". That was the first thing he ever heard me say, and apparently was intrigued. He began hanging out more and more with my roommate, trying to find out more about me. He and I started out slow, as I had no interest in dating anyone at all. Before I knew it we were Facebook friends and emailing back and forth throughout the days. Eventually we decided to be more than friends. After a year, Christmas time came. His family went to California and my family was out of the state so it was just the two of us. We were cuddled up on my couch when I told him I wanted this every Christmas. His response "Then let's get married". Of course I said yes. It was simple, casual and exactly what I wanted.
  3. My fiance, Chris, and I got engaged on July 6th, 2009. I have been living in Wisconsin while finishing graduate school while Chris lives in Portland. I was back in Oregon for vacation and had just returned from a weekend trip with my girlfriends to Vegas. On the ride home from picking me up from the airport, Chris said that he really wanted to go hiking the following morning. I had just been in high heels walking with the girls for four days but I promised that we would go. So, bright and early we headed to the Gorge to do some hiking. The weather was not the best so we were alone on several of the hikes. Towards the end of the morning we hiked up to Oneota Falls. You have climb over a log jam then hike up a creek to get to the falls. The water was waist deep and freezing cold but it was such a beautiful place. Chris kept going away from me "looking at the rocks" little did I know that he was trying to get the ring out of his pocket but it was in a velvet bag which stuck together as soon as it got wet. When we lost feeling in our lower extremities we headed back to the car. I have to say I was a little disappointed because it was the perfect setting. On our way home he asked if I wanted to go by Multnomah Falls, which was the place of our first date six years ago. I again agreed and we went up to the top bridge. Chris was trying to find the perfect place but there were tourists everywhere! As we walked down the path he asked if I wanted to sit on a bench off to the side. While we were sitting there he got down on his knee and asked if I would spend the rest of my life with him? I of course said yes and started crying. As we looked up there wer probably 20 people standing there watching, crying, taking pictures and clapping! It was the perfect day, perfect setting and the perfect man! We have lasted 3 years apart while I was in school and in July we will say I do in Portland.
  4. I heard about this Contest from Jennifer Walker and am very excited about it. My engagement story follows the saying of " the guy of your dreams could be standing right in front of you". I let my current fiance' come stay with me as a roommate after a breakup he had. After eight months of being roommates we started hanging out together more and more and then fell in love with each other and have not left each others side since. The proposal was done at our house after I got home from work one night. I walked into the room with roses, candles and a fire, when he got down on one knee and asked me. I could not have asked for a better proposal, very private.
  5. I heard about your blog from Jennifer Walker...very cool and informative blog! I am excited about the contest!
  6. Oh my gosh! I am sooo excited about this contest! I live in Portland and have been following Kim + Phil’s work for quite a while now! I have especially been loving their new boudoir sessions! But okay, on to my engagement story…. Corey, my then-boyfriend, and I had planned a romantic little getaway to the Willamette Valley wine country for our two-year anniversary. I was SO excited. We were going to stay in a gorgeous bed and breakfast, go wine tasting and just enjoy each other’s company. Unfortunately, about 2 weeks before our anniversary I was asked to go to Amsterdam for work and had to cancel our romantic getaway. What I didn’t know was he was going to propose at the B&B and I had totally just ruined his plan! Fast-forward two weeks and I’m about to leave. I was a wreck, I was really going to miss him. We live together, work at the same company and pretty much do everything together and never get sick of each other (gross, I know. Haha). The first night in Amsterdam I cried and told him I never wanted to leave him AGAIN (pathetic, right? But that’s just me!). Corey and I talked three times a day at the same time and by the end of the first week I was finally starting to feel better about being on my own…. Until all of a sudden Corey disappeared… He didn’t show up for our skype dates, his phone was turned off, and didn’t answer any of my emails. This was really out of character, but I had to get to work so I didn’t have much time to worry. After about 18 hours of silence I received an email from my hotel telling me I had an urgent envelope waiting for me at the front desk. They asked that I come retrieve it immediately. My heart dropped. What could it be? I was a 20 minute train ride away. I dropped everything and left. It was most definitely the longest 20 minutes of my life!! When I got to the front desk, the man handed me an envelope. On the front it said “Liz”… In Corey’s handwriting. I can’t explain exactly how I felt in that moment… Confused, excited, shocked… I had to sit down. I walked over to a sofa in the lobby and opened the envelope. I had just started reading the card when I felt a tap on my shoulder. It was Corey!!! “Did you get your urgent envelope?” he asked with his cute little smirk. He flew all the way to Amsterdam to surprise me! I was in so much shock I completely forgot to ask “What are you doing here?” In our hotel room, about an hour after he showed up (and just as the shock was finally starting to wear off) Corey shocked me once again and got on one knee and asked me to marry him. We spent the rest of the weekend strolling along the romantic canals and cobblestone streets in Amsterdam. It was the most magical time of both of our lives!! Thank you so much for letting me share my story! Liz
