Last week I had the pleasure of meeting Janette and Vincente Galindo, the duo behind Elegant Designs Speciality Linens. Janette and Vincente began their business 15 years ago when a cousin who worked for a hotel complained about the sub par quality of the chair covers which were brought in for weddings and other formal affairs. The couple, who had previously designed swimsuits together, quickly got to work making a pattern for a chair cover. That weekend they had their first booking, renting chair covers for a wedding.
The company has grown steadily over the years, expanding into larger and larger spaces to accomodate an ever-growing inventory of items. They now employ a staff of 23, and have helped family members expand the business to Texas and Florida. However, do not fear that their egos have grown along with their business. Janette and Vincente are sweet and delightful. They pride themselves on quality service and going the extra mile for clients.
Read on to learn more about my interview with Janette and how Elegant Designs Specialty Linen can provide you incredible products paired with excellent service for your wedding.

What are the most popular rental items?
Linens and chairs are the most popular. We have seven colors of chiviari chairs, and many varieties of colors for the seating pads. We also rent a lot of chargers for plates. We are always upgrading our fabric selection to provide more selection to clients and keep up with the latest trends.
Speaking of trends, what is popular right now?
The monochromatic white scheme is not as popular as it once was. I am seeing many bold color combinations, with multiple accent colors. We are doing many reversible fabrics right now, which is great because the fabrics can be alternated throughout the room to make the whole design more fun and interesting. If we do not have a color the bride wants, we can custom dye the fabric to her specifications. We love working with brides to make their vision come alive.
Are there things that couples frequently forget to ask about when placing an order?
Yes, which is why we have a detailed check-list for each client. Couples often forget to rent a cake table, and sometimes a sweetheart table. But with our ordering form, we remind the couples.

Fifteen years into this, what do you most enjoy about your work?
I adore the incredible ideas that couples dream up for their wedding day. I love to see the finished product, and knowing that we had a hand in making their dream a reality. After the wedding, if the couple sends us a picture of the venue, we mail a gift certificate for a complimentary rental for their anniversary. That way they can recreate their wedding table or do something completely different and fun to celebrate.

How do you differentiate yourself among your industry competitors?
We pride ourselves on offering one-on-one time with our clients. We like to pamper them, to accommodate and create with them. For example, we had a bride who wanted a very specific shade of plum, and we were able to dye the fabric to match. Sometimes things happen and the couple forgets to rent something they need--we have had calls come in a few hours before the ceremony is to start, and we make every effort to get the items there for the clients. We love going the extra mile.
Due to our excellent customer service, we have a lot of repeat business, often working with couples throughout their married lives by renting them products for parties, Christmas dinners, etc. We also get many referrals from satisfied customers.

How did you meet your husband?
We met through friends at a party. We have been married 20 years and have two children.
Twenty years is a long time. What is the secret to a successful marriage?
Communication is key. Not only should you love one another, but you should say it every day. Never go to bed angry.
