An Idea

Sara Gray, a fabulous photographer who I have blogged about previously (see entry here) and I had been kicking around an idea to do a mock wedding shoot.  But you know how things are in life--it seems like so much work, what if no one wants to help us, what if it rains--the shoot got sidetracked.  Finally, back in February I tossed an idea to Sara over tea one evening.

How about a lemon and lime theme, with the fruits mixed in tall glass hurricanes?  White linens and natural chiavari chairs?  Sara loved it (thank goodness!) and suggested navy as an accent color.  The deal was sealed.  We set a date for March and divided up a list of vendors we would each contact.

It All Comes Together

Who would have thought that a few weeks later we would have perfect weather, absolutely charming vendors contributing their time and talent, and everyone involved  would have a great time?  Sara took incredible photographs and quickly submitted them to Style Me Pretty.  Within a few days, we were profiled in an entry titled Yellow and Navy Wedding Inspiration.

About the Shoot

We were aiming for something which was fresh and contemporary, reminding the viewer of springtime and summer being just around the corner.  Simultaneously, we hoped to steer clear of anything too formal or straight laced.

I had my own miniature hidden agenda.  After meeting with many couples on tight budgets, I was eager to show off centerpieces of limes and lemons which are classy and photograph well, but are certainly affordable.  It does not take a genius to toss lemons and limes in a bowl either, so it is a great option for those who are enlisting the help of family and friends to help set up the reception space.  For the head table, I bought $50 worth of lemons and limes from a local grocer.  You could have spread the amount of lemons I bought amongst many tables, stretching your dollar even farther.

How We Made it Happen

It was an absolute delight to work with the following vendors to make this shoot happen.  I must admit, I was a bit nervous about asking people to contribute, because I know how busy they are, and we had no way to guarantee we would be published on a major bridal blog.  Amazingly, the following vendors quickly jumped on board and we were awed at what they contributed.  It looked so good!

  1. Kristina, this pattern on the salt and pepper shakers (as well as the plates for the cookies) is known as candlewick. I borrowed it from my late grandmother's collection. Thank you for noticing, I adore it.
  2. Elizabeth this is a wonderful shoot. I'm curious, where did the cute salt and pepper shakers come from? Nice pattern.
  3. I saw this on Style Me Pretty but wanted to congratulate you on your own blog. This is such a fun idea and it looks as though you had a great time. Thanks for the centerpiece ideas, they are gorgeous!
