Most of the focus after the proposal is going to be on the bride, her friends, and her family. I always encourage my clients to involve the groom in the the planning. The bridegroom has several important responsibilities.
Here comes the groom...
These responsibilities include:
- Selecting his groomsmen.
- Giving a toast at the rehearsal dinner and/or at the wedding.
- Selecting gifts for his groomsmen.
- Planning the bachelor party (at the very least, giving preferences to his groomsmen on what he'd like to do).
- Select his and the groomsmen attire for the big day.
- Give input on the wedding budget.
- Select his wedding ring.
- Purchase a wedding day gift for the bride.
Some grooms prefer to take over specific tasks which they enjoy. Many grooms like to plan the honeymoon destination, and surprise his bride with the trip of their dreams. If your future husband wants to take on this task, let him step into it (with your suggestions, of course).
Likely your groom will want your input, but give him a little room for self-expression and let him be comfortable.
A fun resource for grooms is the website GroomGroove, for guys to learn the ins and outs of weddings and their groom duties. Enjoy!
